# Visa on Arc — validator and settlement network, two separate facts

Updated 2026-09-02. Visa is an Arc founding validator and separately added Arc to its stablecoin settlement network in April 2026. What's confirmed, as of 2 Sep 2026.

> Confirmed, and unusually well-documented for this cluster: Visa is a named founding validator (Circle, 5 August 2026), and separately, Visa's own 29 April 2026 press release lists Arc among five newly added blockchains in its stablecoin settlement network — bringing the total to nine networks and describing Arc as "an open Layer-1 blockchain created by Circle, purpose-built to unite programmable money and onchain innovation with real-world economic activity." Both facts are dated and sourced independently.

## Two different roles, easy to conflate

Most companies in this cluster have one confirmed touchpoint with Arc. Visa has two, and they're structurally different, which is worth separating clearly.

**As a founding validator**, Visa is one of 11 named institutions Circle says will anchor Arc's permissioned consensus set at mainnet launch. Visa's quoted statement in that release: "Arc represents the kind of compliant, high-trust network infrastructure needed to help support the growth of onchain payments." That's an infrastructure and governance role — see [Arc's founding validators, explained](/guides/arc-founding-validators-explained) for what it does and doesn't confer.

**As a settlement network participant**, Visa runs a separate, ongoing pilot in which banks and merchant acquirers can settle transactions in stablecoins across a growing list of blockchains. That pilot predates the founding-validator announcement: Visa launched USDC settlement in the United States in December 2025, and by 29 April 2026 had scaled it to a $7 billion annualized run rate — up 50% quarter over quarter — while adding five blockchains (Arc, Base, Canton, Polygon, and Tempo) to four already supported (Avalanche, Ethereum, Solana, Stellar). Arc's inclusion in that list is a product-level fact, separate from its validator role, and dated nearly four months before Circle's founding-validator announcement.

## What this means, and what it doesn't

Together, these confirm Visa has both a governance-layer relationship with Arc (validator) and a product-layer one (settlement network inclusion) — which is more concrete than most entries in Circle's partner list, most of which have only a validator seat or a named-but-undetailed integration. It does not mean Visa's $7 billion settlement run rate is Arc-specific — that figure is a network-wide total across all nine blockchains in the pilot, and Visa has not published an Arc-only breakdown as of 2 September 2026. It also does not mean stablecoin settlement volume is flowing through Arc today: Arc's mainnet launches 16 September 2026, so any Arc-routed settlement activity described in the April 2026 announcement was necessarily pre-mainnet, testnet-adjacent activity or forward-looking network onboarding, not live production volume on Arc specifically.

## Relationship to Arc, as of 2 Sep 2026

## Questions

**Is Visa processing stablecoin settlement on Arc right now?**

Not confirmed at a live, Arc-specific level as of 2 September 2026. Visa's settlement pilot spans nine blockchains including Arc, but Arc mainnet itself doesn't launch until 16 September 2026, and no Arc-only volume has been disclosed.

**Is Visa's $7 billion settlement figure specific to Arc?**

No. That figure, from Visa's 29 April 2026 announcement, is the annualized run rate across all nine blockchains in Visa's stablecoin settlement network, not an Arc-only number.

**Is Visa an Arc founding validator?**

Yes — confirmed in Circle's 5 August 2026 press release.

**How does Visa's Arc relationship compare to Mastercard's?**

Both are founding validators. Visa's additional, separately confirmed touchpoint is product-level settlement-network inclusion; Mastercard's additional touchpoint is its BVNK acquisition and simultaneous role with the competing Tempo network — see Mastercard on Arc.

**When did Visa's Arc relationship start, relative to the founding-validator announcement?**

The settlement-network addition (29 April 2026) predates the founding-validator press release (5 August 2026) by roughly three and a half months.
